¢ ~ CELEBRATE Mr. And Mrs. Louis Meringer Honored at Family Gathering Mr. and Mrs. Louis Meringer, Frenchman's Bay were honored on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary at a din- ner party held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Meringer, Central Park boulevard south, last Saturday. High mass was said in their honor at St. Hed- wig's Roman Catholic Church during the day. Mr.-and Mrs. Meringer have been blessed with three daugh- ters, Mrs. Edward Kuc (Wanda) Buffalo, New York; Mrs. Henry Starzynski (Sophie), Oshawa; Mrs. Theodore Koss (Helen), Oshawa, and two sons, Anthony and Leon, both of Oshawa. They also have 16 grandchildren. The table for the reception was centred with an anniver- sary cake and pink chrysanthe- mums. The honored couple were presented with an electric stove ibis nti totiooe 40TH ANN IVERSARY as well as many other gifts, flowers and cards from their family and friends. Mrs, Mer- inger was also presented with flowers from her two grand- daughters, Miss Janet Kumar and Miss Kathy Meringer. For part of the evening enter- tainment a short accordion re- cital was given by Master Ricky and John Starzynski and Mr. Koss. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kuc, Buffalo, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Star- zynski, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Koss, the Reverend Felix Kwiat- kowski, Mrs. Mary Kumar, Buffalo, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Stynatka, Whitby; Mrs. Nick Lopuk and 16 grandchil- dren. Mr, and Mrs. Meringer were married in St. Stanslaw Parish, Toronto, on October 28, 1922. Gordon Andrew Bette Gay Burgess As Bride Southminster United Church was the setting for the marriage last Saturday of Miss Bette Gay Burgess, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Burgess, Osh- awa, and Mr. Gordon Andrew, Cobbett, Oshawa, son of Mrs. William Cobbett, Saint John, New Brunswick, and the late Mr. Cobbett. The ceremony was perform- ed by the Reverend John R. Porter. Mrs. C. R. Chambers, organist, accompanied the solo- ist, Mrs. Kenneth Harmer, who sang "Through The Years" and "O Perfect Love". The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a full length gown of peau de sole styled with lily-point sleeves, scoop neckline and a chapel train. A_ pearl studded tiara held her short bouffant veil of tulle illusion and she carried a cascade of red roses and white carnations. Her attendant, Miss Gwenna Sloan, wore a short gown of emerald green peau de soie Cobbett Takes sisted in a. two-piece ensemble with black fur black accesor- ies, They both wore corsage of pink roes and carnations. When the bridal couple left on their honeymoon trip to Ot tawa the bride was wearing a mint green walking suit with black accessories. On their return Mr, and Mrs, Cobbett will make their home in Oshawa. Out of town guests were from Bancroft, Hull, Ottawa, Toronto, Belleville and Hermon. The bride was honored by friends prior to her marriage at a combination kitchen, linen and bathroom shower, held by Mrs. Charles Burgess, Banff avenue. Miss Gwenna Sloan, the maid of honor gave a miscellan- eous shower at which the guests were fellow nurses of the bride- elect from Oshawa General Hospital. A cup and saucer shower was held by Mrs. James Hughes, Jasper avenue. styled with short sleeves, scoop neckline and a bell shaped skirt. Her hat was formed of gold colored flowers and she carried a nosegay of Talisman roses, bronze chysanthemums and gold shasta chrysanthemums. The best man was Mr. Lloyd Devett .with Mr. Richard Cob- bett and Mr. Charles Burgess as ushers. The reception was held at the Glenholm School Auditorium and later a reception was held at the home of the bride's par- ents, on Wecker drive. The bride's mother received in a two-piece ensemble of taupe satin brocade trimmed with mink and brown accessories. The Ontario Federation of Home and School Associations recently employed a firm of management consultants to do this and is now digesting the drastic recommendations made. These include halving of the large executive; strengthening the districts by giving more autonomy; stressing the impor- tance of the individual associa- tion and better communications.
