Jockey Bill Boland took Beau Purple to the lead at once and they stood off the challenge of 11 rivals for 1% miles to beat favored Kelso from the Bohemia Stable by two lengths. Green- tree Stable's The Axe II was third. Beau Purple, a 20-to-1 shot was making his first start on a grass course 'and was timed in two minutes, 28 3-5 seconds, He paid $43.30, $16 and $8.70. Cheevers handled almost 100 shots in two weekend games as Wolves were drubbed 8-2 by Kingston Frontenacs and tied Syracuse Braves 8-8. The weary Wolves had three games in three nights. Friday they whipped the powerful Hull- Ottawa Canadiens 4-2 at Hull, Saturday they were in Kingston and Sunday in Syracuse.
