How can this be brightened? It is very dull and dingy looking, not at all the way it was when purchased. (Also, formica coun- ter tops and end' tables.) I have been very careless and punctured the counter tops in several places with a sharp knife and one wound is very deep. Is there any way of re. pairing this? ANSWER: Plastic cleaners wares dealers to remove the film that clouds these surfaces; follow. label directions for use. Or try polishing the formica surface with an auto-cleaning wax in cream or paste form (not liquid) according to manu- facturer's instructions. If the formica is badly worn, replace- ment may be the only satisfac- tory solution. '. A special seam-sealing mate- rial, in tube form, is available at formica dealers for patching very small holes and dents; it comes in colors to match stan- }dard finishes. are available at some house-| CHIPPED RANGE QUESTION: A heavy pan ac- cidentally fell and made an ugly black chip on a new porce- lain range. It is, believe me, an leyesore. Can this be repaired? ANSWER: Certainly! Many hardware and _ housewares stores carry porcelain stove re- pair preparations which really give pretty good results. If you follow label directions carefully; you should be able to disguise the black, chipped area very successfully, even thought it may not be quite as smooth as the original. They dig burrows through our. vegetable garden at our summer home, -and are a real nuisance. ANSWER: Try one of the fol- lowing: Put moth 'balls (not crystals or flakes) in the mo'e burrows, then seal the openings. If you have a power mower, or can borrow one, fasten a hose over the exhaust pipe, inserting the open end of the hose into the mole burrow; then start the engine, blowing the exhaust fumes through the burrow; cose the hole in the burrow and move on to another area. Re- peated treatments discourage the moles, even if they are not Jethal. FINISHING DRIFTWOOD QUESTION: What are direc- tions for cleaning and finishing driftwood? ANSWER: After the wood 1s thoroughly dried out brush off any loose sand and vacuum off any clinging dust, etc. Black or dark spots on the surface of the wood should be lightly rub- bed with "000" sandpaper. Any grease, grime, etc., should be removed by wiping the surface with fine steel wool and turpen- tine. Some people prefer to leave the wood this way with no finish. Or a finish coat of clear lacquer or pure, fresh white shellac (thinned half-and. half with denatured alcoho!) can be applied, to keep the cotor THE OLOEN CASH DOWN DAYS HAVE CHANGED = NOW MONTHLY TERMS CAN BE ARRANGED IF YOU'RE @ BUILD A NEW HOME The Building Editor, Oshawa Times, Oshawa, Ontario, (CO Enclosed please find $1.00 for which send me Book, "HOME PLANNING GUIDE" of Plans entitled Mail requests 10c extra.
