N. Thomson, chairman and presi- dent of Power Cor. of Canada Ltd., says he had "legal opin- ion to the effect that" the offer of Hesper Oil Co, Ltd. to pur- chase all assets of Canadian Oil Companies Ltd. "is invalid." Power Corp. is said to hold 25 per cent of Canadian Oil Companies shares. Hesper Oil is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shell Oil Co. of Canada Ltd.
