14 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursdoy, July 12, 1962 ISPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' OSHAWA TONY'S dropped an 8-7 decision to Dependable Caterers in their Beaches Major Fastball League contest here last night: The game was a regular slug-fest with three homers and four or five doubles and a flock of singles. Al Sullivan failed to go the distance in his first start of the sea- son with Tony's. Actually, we felt he should have been re- lieved earlier than he was. Ronnie Jones, brought in for the purpose of bolstering the Tony's pitching staff, wasn't called into action until after Dependable had scored three runs in the 9th -- this after two previous barrages that produced runs for the visitors after they had trailed 5-0 at one stage. Jones fanned his first batter and got the next one to fly out. How effective he would have been over a longer stint, remains to be seen. The situation last night was such that this informa- tion should be known right now. Tonight's doubleheader has Heffering's and Maclean's clashing in the first game with Cobourg facing Pic-O-Mats in the nightcap. Cobourg expects to have 'Sleep' Dawe, on the mound tonight and if they do, and he is in form, local softball fans will see some fast pitching. ; CAPSULE SPORTS:--The death of Jack Humphreys, chief scout of N.Y. Rangers, who succumbed to a heart at- tack on Tuesday, will be learned with deep sadness in the many centres where he was popularly known as a keen hockey man. . . .
