GEORGE WHITBREAD Grandchildren Greet Couple Celebrating 50th Anniversary Mr..and Mrs. George Whit- bread, Colborne Street East, were honored by their children, grandchildren and great-grand- children on Sunday, July 1, on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. Thirty members of the family were present at a dinner held at the South End Restaurant. Mr. and Mrs. Whitbread were greeted by three grandchildren, William Whitbread who ad- dressed the anniversary couple and Judy and Ronald Whit- bread who presented a corsage of red roses and a boutonniere. After dinner Mr. and Mrs. Whitbread were presented with a money tree and many wishes for more happy years together. They also received a telephone call from a granddaughter, Joy Fraser, who is a_ patient in Victoria Hospital, London, On- tario. The guests then met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Whitbread, Hortop avenue, where a family reunion was held. Mr. and Mrs. Whitbread were married at Sunderland July 1, 1912. They have three children, Mrs. George Fraser --Oshawa Times Photo (Rose), London, Ontario, Har- old and Harry of Oshawa. To these go parents and their children This practice usually affords children a lot of wholesome fun with other chil- dren of their age and for each family. Naturally, the picnic is often held near a swimming place, beach, stream or lake. MANY CAN' SWIM Among the children at this picnic will be some who can't swim and now and then there may be a tragedy of drowning. Those managing the picnic should first of all provide for life-saving guards, If you go to a picnic with your children, as- certain if there is such provi- sion. If there is not, you will want to restrict the boundaries of your children, especially the younger ones. So also in directing the pic- nic, those responsible see to it that there are skillful persons to supervise the games and ac- tivities for the various age groups.
