By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR | 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' A: WING-DING thunderstorm that struck both east and west of Oshawa, wiped out the Beaches Major Fastball League game last night in Toronto. Oshawa Tony's found the. Kew Gardens diamond a sea of mud, so their game with Dependable Caterers was washed out. However, they'll go tomorrow night here, against Eddie Black's, with Bev Smith making his last appearance for a couple of months. He leaves at the end of the month to attend summer school, at Queen's. With Black's and Tony's almost tied for first place in thé Beaches League race, tomorrow night's game should be another sizzler. SOMEBODY got their signals mixed! Oshawa Hawkeyes may be holdin?a football clinic tonight but,it will not be at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium, as the Stadium has been booked for over two weeks, for a soccer game, between Osh- awa Hungaria and Queen City. This is the game that had to be postponed on May 25 -- due to the circus being at the Stadium. Don't know whether or not coach Tony Andre- jacka has called off his session for tonight, but we rather think the Hawkeyes will wind up in one of the available cor- ners at Alexandra Park. BRIGHT BITS -- Whitey Ford turned in a masterful pitching display yesterday in Detroit to blank the Tigers. He asked to be taken out, with one man out in the 9th inning, due to a sore arm, but it's felt that his new ailment is not serious and that apparently the old shoulder injury {s fully cured. Believe-it-or-not -- N.Y. Yankees beat the Tigers yesterday on bunts -- quite a switch for the club that boasts Mantle, Maris, Skowron, Berra, Blanchard, Reed, etc., but just another proof that it's tough to stop a good club that has determination. . . . TENNIS FANS at Winbledon have some new finery to gawk at today. Back in 1949, Teddy Tinling designed special lace panties for Gussie Moran, that jarred the Wimbledon dignity no-end. Now starting today, some of the female tennis stars will wear outfits that leave almost the entire back, from neck-to-waist, exposed to view. Heavens, we hope they play some tennis at this fashion show. . . . DON NEWCOMBE is being hailed by his Japan- ese team manager, as just what the team needed--and since "Newk"' is playing first base and hitting like a good one, this could start an exodus of major league 'has beens" to the land of the rising sun. Larry Doby is to join the same club, shortly. . . . LINDY McDANIEL saved another game for the St. Louis Cards yesterday, pitched the final 3 and 2-3 innings in shufout form, to preserve a 6-4 win over the Cubs. He is currently the hottest "fireman" in the National League, pitching sensational ball for the Cards in relief role, 25 appearances in 70 games, .. . MILWAUKEE beat the Dodgers by the same score yesterday, which enabled Cards to move a little closer, also the S. F. Gaints who crept within a half-game, with 3-1 over Cincy Redlegs. .. . TORONTO _ ARGOS have traded Dick Fouts to the Vancouver Lions and now word comes out of Ottawa that Frank Clair may trade his two Canadian lawyer stars, Ron Stewart and Gary Schreider. They are going to attend Osgoode Hall au- tum -- and of course, would be very handy, to the NE Stadium! Whitey Ford Blanks Tigers In 'Bunt Win Even with super-star Mickey|ing down the shutout.
