Internal revenue service of- ficials said Wednesday the clerk's contract with the track would have to be studied first. Howevery, they leaned to the belief he could claim the loss if his boss swears the clerk was responsible for the tick- ets. In such a case, the clerk could list the transaction as a business loss. He could not hope to list it as a gambling loss. Such losses are allowed only to the extent of winnings The clerk, identified only as a 3l-year veteran, clicked off 120 tickets at $50 each on the No. 1 horse when he had been asked for No. 3. It happened in Belmont's fifth race Mon- day. When the mistake was real- ized, there was nothing to do but punch out $6,000 on the correct horse. Traditionally, the clerk was held respons- ible. Had the No. 1 horse won, the clerk would have received $28,800 for his involuntary $6,000 wager. But the No. 3 horse won and paid $2.30 for $2. Owner-Trainer Is Under Suspension MONTREAL (CP) The Mount Royal Jockey Club, op- erators of Blue Bonnets Race- way, Thursday night suspended owner-trainer William R. Millar for the balance of the track's current 40 - day thoroughbred meeting. The suspension, effec- tive until July 15, is for "allow- ing medication to be adminis- tered to his horse Chopita" be- fore a race June 6. feated Marcus Antonius by 1% lengths and was nearly three lengths in front of Absent Son to pay $3 to win. Last summer at Fort Erie, Puss n Boots gained recogni- tion when he jumped a hedge, dumped his jockey and. slid into the infield lake for a swim. In Florida last winner Puss n Boots was the scourge of the jockey colony as he dumped rider after rider. But he fin- ished fourth in the Florida Derby behind such horses as Sunrise County and Ridan. Thursday he won his second straight on the Ontario scene and he did it easily without giv- ing his rider, George Gubbins, a struggle. His time for the 1 1-16- mile run was 1.45 3-5.
