Suns Downed 16-1 By Climbing Jets y THE CANADIAN PRESS g Pain Jets are the de- fending International League champions and they played that way Thursday night. In the pro- cess, they humiliated the league leading Jacksonville Suns. The Jets, who have been in last plece most of this season, exploded with power as they walloped Suns 16-1 at Columbus. It was the worst defeat Jack- sonville has suffered this sea- son. In other games, Toronto Maple Leafs scored three times in the ninth inning to edge Duf- falo Bisons 5-4, Rochester Red Wings defeated Syracuse Chiefs 75 and Atlanta Crackers 1 gg Richmond Virginians 11-0. In the Columbus game, Jets scored six runs in the second inning and another seven in the fourth. They scored twice in the first and added their final run in the eights. The Suns' lone run came in the first inning. GET ONLY 5 HITS Bob (Riverboat Smith went the route for Columbus, limit- ing Suns to five hits. A peculiar fact about the loss was that Jacksonville used only two pitchers. Starter Art Cec- jearelli gave way to Vic Daval- lilo in the fourth. Davallilo had been in centre field until then, Lou Johnson supplied the big blow that gave Leafs their win Thurs. Neil Chrisley hit an eighth- inning home run for Toronto. Righthander Bob Sadowski, who had been averaging more than eight runs a game prior to Thursday night's contest, pitched a_ six-hitter to lead Crackers to their win over Richmond, Sadowski walked three and struck out five as he posted his fourth victory against five losses. Crackers went ahead 3-0 in the first inning. They added two more runs in the third and then had three-run innings in the fifth and ninth.
