He urged adoption of a reserve clause, similar to that in base- ball. "The R. C. Owens. case is a perfect example of the salary merry-go-rcund we're getting into,' Wismer said. "The war between the National and American leagues has boosted club payrolls 25 per cent. Now the tug-of-war for players in- side the leagues will hike it an- other 15 per cent. "In a majority of the cases, players are making more money than the owners." Owens, a six-foot-three, 105- pound end who distinguished hmself as a pass catcher with San Francisco '49ers, played out his option with the "National League Club, shopped around for offers and finally signed Monday with Baltimore Colts of the NFL. "This is just one case but it raises a vital question," Wis- mer said. "If Owens can do it, what is to keep Paul Hornung of the Green Bay Packers or Johnny Unitas of the Colts from playing out their options and then putting themselves on the block to the highest bidder?" In baseball, when a player signs with a club, he becomes that club's property for life-- or until he is traded or sold. The pro football contract, which may be for any specified length of time, carries a one - year option. THE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesday, May 9, 1962 15 Floor Hockey League Games Forest Floor Hockey League action at Simcoe Hall, on Tues- day evening, proved quite excit- ing with two high scoring games run off. Ted Boivin and Brian Camp- bell, with seven goals apiece, Roger Richard with three and Alan Baker with two, led the victors. Bill Melnychuk, with five goals, Dan Flemming with three started off quickly fell behind badly, as Maples, in this contest at one time held a 3-0 lead but faltered under the close check- ing of Poplars. third-straight victory without a defeat.
