| Hospital Establishes - Reservations System To facilitate admissions to Oshawa General Hospital, a reservations system and depart- hospital's tem, James C. Hepburn, OGH administrative assistant Wednesday. Under the reservations sys- tem, he said, patients are placed into one of three cate- gories by their own physician and their names placed on the appropriate list for admission. THREE CATEGORIES The three categories include emergency, urgent and elective surgery. Names appearing on these lists are subject to review by the medical staff admitting and discharge committee. Emergency patients include those whose lives may be in danger if they are not hospital- ized immediately. Some ex- amples of these type patients, Mr. Hepburn said are those suf- fering acute appendicitis, acci- dent victims, heart attacks and haemorrhage cases. Oshawa General Hospital doors are always open to these patients when they arrive even if they have to be detain- ed on stretchers in the emer- gency department until beds are made available. URGENT CASES Category two on the reserva- tion list is urgent. This list con- tains names of patients in need of medical care as early as pos- sible -- but whose lives are in no immediate danger. However, it has been pointed out that people whose names are placed on the urgent list may develop into emergency | tal. As ing admission. The urgent list is compiled by the chiefs of each of the med- ical staff services and is card |indexed. |PATIENT ALERTED | If, when a patient's name ap- pears at the top of the list and that patient is informed that his time has arrived to come into rangements to be there, that pa- tient is alerted that his or her jname is at the top of the list 'and to be prepared to come into hospital in the near future. The third category is the elec- tive surgery list and is devised for people who should have hos- pital treatment to benefit their general health. | People whose names appear on the elective list are those \whose lives are in no immediate danger and who will be in no jdanger in the future. This list is booked ahead now for approximately six months. A patient's doctor will notify the patient three to four weeks in advance of when a bed is ex- pected in order to permit the patient to make necessary ar- rangements to be in hospital. However, there is the possi- bility with advance bookings of six months on the elective list |that the urgent list may |crease. Dr. C. J. Austin of Bowmanville was cor- oner. Alldread was killed when his car struck a tree east of Bow- manville Jan. 28, the jury learn- ed. Dr. A. "I don't think we should em- bark on a water system for Whitevale until we have a great deal more information," said Reeve J. B. Scott, "and know the feeling of the people in this regard." Clark L. CLAIMS EXEMPTION At the judge's court hearing assessment appeals nw in pro- gress, it has been announced to Council that Ross W. Heron claims exemption on four farm properties under Section 37 of the Assessment Act, which pro- vides adjustments be made to farmers who do not benefit from certain services as much as others. This section relates, particu- larly in this case, to fire serv- ices, saying that the further a farm is located from a fire station, the less fire rate he has to pay. The charge was laid after a man was knocked down by the accused's car and fatally in- jured. The accused testified that he was proceeding west on Elm- grove avenue Feb. 12 when he heard a. bang and saw a man fall over his front left mud- guard. He stated that he was not able to see the man be- cause of the blinding effect of the setting sun in his eyes, The officer, who investigated the accident, testified that when he was approaching the scene of the accident about 10 minutes later, the sun did not bother him in any way.
