8 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursday, December 7, 1961 Mary St. Pupils' Pleases Parents The Christmas Story as told in word and song by boys and girls of Miss Ferne Ledgett's room featured the December meeting of Mary Street Home and School Association on Mon- day evening. Miss Margaret Jamieson, act- ing as mistress of ceremonies, announced the arrival of the Grade 2 children. In procession, past proud parents, strode the smiling, eager, children; some in costume depicting the Wise Men, the Shepherds and the Angel. The Nativity scene with Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child in the manger completed the picture. Miss Sharon Lam- bersky and Master Danny Dil- labough each read portions of the Christmas Story as told by St. Luke which was _inter- spersed by choral renditions of "O Little Town of Bethlehem'; "While Shepherds Watched"; "Hark the Herald Angels Sing'; 'Run Neighbours to the Crib"; "We Three Kings"; "A Star of Shining Beauty" and "O Come Little Children'. Master Tom Bakker announced the Grade 2 choristers would like to close by extending a Merry Christmas to one and all in song and so with the strains of "We Wish you a Merry Christmas" the children con- cluded their part of the pro- gram. CHORAL READING Grade 6 pupils from Mr. Wayne Junkin's room were in- troduced next by Margaret Jamieson. These older boys and girls, with a quiet earnestness gave a choral reading of St. Luke's Birth of Christ. Mrs. R. S. MacMurdo thank- ed the students on behalf of the Association and Mrs. Arm- strong, president, added her thanks. As a climax to their evening's performance, the children were feted to refresh- ments while the meeting con- tinued. Mrs. C. R. Bebee, religious education chairman, introduced the guest speaker, the Rever- end George Carroll of Byng Avenue Pentecostal Church. In announcing his topic, Mr. Car- roll referred to the, excellent children's program whic} point- ed out'so well his theme "The True Meaning of Christmas". From a portion of the Scripture by St. Matthew he read of the birth of the Child who would be called Jesus. Biblical names, said Mr, Carroll, always had a meaning and "Jesus" meant "he will save his people from their sins". Christmas, he said, came not from the Bible but from early Greek cults. Gross commercial- ism; the myth of Santa Claus tended to lessen the true reason) for celebrating Christmas. Too! often, he said, we thought of Christ at Christmas only as the! babe in the manger when per-| haps we should link Christmas a little more closely with Eas-| ter and The Cross. The speaker was thanked by Mrs. R. S. MacMurdo. ROUTINE BUSINESS The president, Mrs. H. B. Armstrong, presided for the) business meeting.
