The Oshawa Filly Bonspiel will be held on March 7 and it is hoped that the change to this later date will produce a larger out- of-town entry list. The president reminded the members of the change in date of the deadline for payment of club dues. The new date is No- vember 25 and the meeting passed a motion that only mem- bers in good standing be allow- ed to participate in bonspiels. Opening Day for the Ladies' Section is Monday, November 6, at 1.30 p.m. when two four- end draws will be played. It was also announced that there would be mixed curling on Saturday night, Nov. 4. YESTERDAY'S STARS Hockey Player Has Eye Saved By Plastic Lens NEW GLASGOW, N.S. (CP)-- All -year - old New Glasgow youth who lost the sight of his right eye after a hockey acci- dent two years ago can see again, thanks to an operation that replaced part of the eye with a plastic lens. The operation was performed by Dr. Anthony Hyslop, an Eng- lish eye specialist now practis- ing in Nova Scotia. Elmer MacCann underwent three operations, including the removal of a cataract, but the eye's natural lens had been damaged. At the same time, probably because of the strain, the usefulness of the other eye was decreasing. Last spring Dr. Hyslop and Dr. John Grieves, his partner, decided the only choice was to try to restore the sight of the damaged eye. They substituted a plastic lens ground by an English optical firm for the dead natural lens. Elmer now is able to keep up | with his school work and is jlooking forward to getting back to sports when the eye is com- pletely healed.
