Johnnie is the grandson of Mrs. Earl Tom- linson and Mrs. Jack Hender- shot and great-grandson of Mr. Robert Henry Ferguson, all of Oshawa. --Photo by Ireland Barbara Ann Elliott Lorne Jeffs Repeat Candlelight Vows In a candlelight ceremony in|Baptist Church opened with a King Street United Church on Friday evening, Barbara Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ever- ett Leslie Elliott, and Lorne Raymond Jeffs, son of Mr, and Mrs. Edmund Jeffs, all of Osh- awa, were united in marriage. The Reverend Fred Reed offi- ciated at the double-ring cere- mony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a semi- formal gown of carnation-white, bouquet taffeta on princess lines with a lace yoke, scoop neckline and short sleeves. A crown of .pearls held her bouffant, finger- tip veil and she carried a cas- cade of white roses and stephan- otis with trails of ivy. Miss Mary Elliott, attending her sister, wore a sheath dress of raspberry brocaded satin with bracelet sleeves, and a matching hat of rose petals. Her flowers were pink carna- tions, tinted to match, in a cascade, Mr. Jack Jeffs was best man for his brother and Mr. Douglas Klein ushered. A reception followed at the home of the bride's parents. Receiving her guests, the bride's mother wore old gold brocaded taffeta with a match- ing feathered hat and accesso- ries and a white carnation cor sage. The bridegroom's mother chose Dior blue silk crepe with feathered hat and accessories to match and a pink corsage of carnations. The honeymoon is being spent in the southern United States. For going away, the bride wore a teal blue Italian knit suit, a white maribou hat, black acces- sories and a corsage of pink carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Jeffs will re- turn to reside in Oshawa. Miss Julia Malic, a mission- ary from India, brought a mes- sage and told of the wonders of Miss Kathleen Keenan whose marriage to Mr, Stanley Wilson takes place in First Baptist Church tomorrow afternoon has been honored at pre-nuptial events, Miss Carol Hutcheson and Miss Sandra Clarke held a personal and miscellaneous shower at the home of Miss Clarke. Assisting in serving were Miss Gail Currie and Miss Carole Clough. Mrs. Harry Wells entertained for her niece at a miscellane- ous shower at her home on Stevenson road north. A' miscellaneous shower was given by Mrs. Arthur Keenan. Serving were Mrs. Fred Green- wood, Mrs. John Smith and Mrs. Ross Keenan. The future bride's classmates from the School of Nursing of the Oshawa General Hospital held a miscellaneous shower at the home of Miss Barbara Stacey in Toronto. Mrs. Arthur Stovin entertain- ed at a kitchen shower at her home on Court street. From the operating room staff of the Oshawa General Hospital the bride-elect received a gift of crystal. Following the rehearsal the bridal party was entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Keenan, Sherwood avenue. St. Mary's CWL Plans Activities At Meeting St. Mary of the People Coun- cil of the Catholic Women's League held its October meet- ing in the church auditorium, The Reverend Norbert Gignac opened the meeting with the League prayer. Mrs. Frank Donall presided. In the absence of the secretary, Mrs. Frank Maloney read the minutes, also the correspondence, Mr. Ted Chenier read the treasurer's report. Mrs. Kenneth McRae's report on the bingo refreshment booth showed a substantial bank bal- ance of $139.58. It was announced that the Na- tional Convention of the Catholic Women's League will be held from October 27 to November 3 at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto. Only three dinner tick- ets have been made available for the Council. A convener's meeting in con- nection with the parish anniver- sary supper (to be held in Octo- ber) is to take place at the home of Mrs. Frank Donald. On the evening of October 10 a meeting of the Annual Bazaar committee was held in the church sacristy to further plans. The president thanked Mrs. Daniel Shutka for her past duties which she so ably car- ried out as spiritual convener of the Council and from which she now finds it necessary to resign. Mrs. Kenneth Johnson has consented to carr yon as spiritual convener for the com- pletion of the term. Father Gignac reported on the results of the Church Car- nival recently held on the church grounds.. As a result, members of the Council with members of the French Feder- ation were able to contribute $404 to this cause. Members were asked to come out and help in whatever way they could and were asked to en- courage the family rosary in the home. It was suggested that members think over the idea of the Perpetual Rosary which was practised by the Council last year or possibly start a devo- tion to "Our Lady of Perpetual Ilelp" to be held at a specified time with all members attend: ing.
