Gaius, Christian Layman ILLUSTRATED SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON By Alfred Buescher David Inspired By Holy Spirit Spirit, gives counsel. He writes, "What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days; that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace and pursue it." If the tongue is not true and the lips pure, the taste is effected. Let! us be careful how we speak of, others. Evil or slanderous words may hurt the reputation and influence of others but they hurt the speaker more. He who indulges in such, loses his taste for the Lord. Oswald J. Smith says his motto is, No Attack! No Defence! Romans 12:18. It reads, "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." The happy situation expres- sed by David in this Psalm may be shared by us all. "The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." Let us seek the Lord as David did. By R. Barclay Warren The Psalmist exhorts, "O taste and 'see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." Psalm 34:8. Taste is the most personal of the senses. David was speaking of enjoy- ing the Lord, out of personal experience. As a poor man in fears and trouble he had sought the Lord and found deliverance. His attitude to life was changed. His boast was now in the Lord. Continually, regardless of cir- cumstances, he was praising the Lord, He calls on others to join him, saying, "O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt | his name together." | David had a guardian angel. "The angel of the Lord encam- peth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them." His needs were supplied. "They that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing." With the coming of Jesus Christ to the world, our privi- leges are greater. The way to heaven is clearer. He is our example.
