WHITBY And DISTRICT Jailed Week Red Wings Win Jr. B. OLA Championship By CLIFF GORDON Whitby Red Wings last night won the OLA Jr. B champion ship as they downed the Mimico Mountaineers 12-9 or was it 11-9. The dispute arose out of a goa that was scored by Kenny Ross at the 19.59 mark of the second period. The referees did not make a ruling at the time on the goal, but they did rule that the locals would have to play overtime so in our book it looks as if they did not allow the goal, or why in heck would they make the two teams play over- time, as Whitby scored two goals in overtime to salt the game away. The win gives the Wings the series four games to one. The locals lost the first game but came to take the next four in a row. The Wings by winning won the Jack MacDonald Memorial Trophy Johnny Davis was the big man for the Wings in last night's game as the current record holder bagged four goals. Gor Holliday, Ronni¢ Moore and Kenny Ross added a pair each. If they count the ome at 19.59. Otherwise Ross had only one lies to Bob Ferguson, Bruce Marlott and Russ Ferguson. The game was a fast, cleanly played affair that saw only two| penalites handed out, one to each club and they were both majors. The score stood at one all at the end of the first, then| Mimico scored five in the sec-| ond as did the Whitby team if] they counted them all. Then in the final period they played to what was ruled as a nine-all tie. The local club along with their manager felt that the Whitby team had won the game 10-9 but they were forced to play| overtime, with the local team| playing under protest with man-| ager Davie feeling that hi {team was being back strongly|ever it did not make too much are difference as the Wings showed they had the stuff and out- hustled the Mountaineers and| |tired home two unanswered goals to take the game and the title. He said that the car swerved support, then getting the run around in the playoffs by teams like Long Branch and Mimico who appeared to play just when they felt like it. But neverthe- less the will to win and true fighting spirit of the local team won out as they waited their time and took the games when they could get them and showed they have the stuff that makes true champions, .
