The president Mrs. K. Cunliffe open- ed the meeting with prayer. Var- fous reports were read and ap- proved. | During the business meeting the Guild members decided to make a donation to the Canon Channen Memorial Fund. Plans were made for the catering by the members of the group at a wedding to take place on Sept. 30 with Mrs. A. Robertson as convener. The group will also cater to the Rotary luncheon for | the month of October with the| following conveners. Mrs. J. Wil-| son, Mrs. C. Rycroft, Mrs. A.| Robertson and Mrs. K. Jailed 3 Months On Driving Count Robert Wray of Myrtle Station was given a three- months jail sentence for drunk driving by Magistrate R. B. Dnieper in Whitby Magistrate's Court Tuesday. Pickering Township Police Constable Donald Martin testi- fied that he was forced off the road by an oncoming car at 12.40 a.m. on Aug. 24 on High- way 2. He told the court that he had turned around and followed the vehicle from the Rouge Valley hill to Sheppard avenue where he was able to overtake the weaving vehicle because of the road widening. He stated that the accused had been travelling between 25 and 30 mph. When the officer stopped the car, the accused had trouble getting his wallet out of his pocket, was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. Pickering Township Police Constable Charles Daniels tes- tified that when the accused] arrived at the station he was unsteady on his feet, was repeti- tious and smelled of alcohol. | Both officers were. convinced that the man was intoxicated. The accused had admitted to the police officers that he had drunk four or five pints of beer. | Magistrate Dnieper told the accused 'hat he was getting the) three-month sentence because it was his second offence of mix-| ing alcohol and driving. The accused's car was impounded for six months. | Colin Ariss of 23 Durham] street, Ajax, who was in court | for sentencing on a charge of having care and control of an automobile while intoxicated was acquitted by M Dnieper. Ariss was found lying on the front seat of his car outside a Pickering restaurant. { Magistrate Dnieper sald he| found as fact that the accused| was found sprawled on the front| that the accused was intoxicat-| ed but that he had entered the| car for the purpose of resting. Mc-| Minn, 1207 Byron street south, on Oct. 16. | | RY And Union Strike Talks TORONTO (CP) -- Represen- tatives of the Royal York Hotel and the striking Hotel and Club Employees Union (CLC) met Tuesday for talks aimed at set- tling the 22-week strike. The meeting was the result of a request by Premier Frost, who has been offering his serv-| ices since the strike started. There was no comment on progress of the talks. The union struck after refus- ing an offer from the hotel, largest: in the Commonwealth, of a 2%-cent-an-hour wage in-| crease. A number of other is-| sues are also at stake. The hotel has been operating with replacements augmented by about 500 of the original 1,188 strikers.
