This unit can provid on-the- spot traiping of both a practical and an oral nature." HE mobile unit, other department officials explained, will make one-night stands throughout the province, its operator will hold lectures on one topic and answer questions for all those in the natural gas industry in that area, then move on to another community. The unit will come back within a. month to hold another 'lecture in each town. The department is also cooperating with the On- tario Department of Education in sponsoring this fall a 14-week course for gas fitters at the Provincial Insti- tute of Trades School at Nassau Street in' Toronto. Weekly three-hour evening lectures will be given at a cost of $20 for the course. Similar instruction is expect- ed to be given in other large Ontario centres in the next: few years. Under the new regulations only certified personnel can work on natural gas installations in public buildings. The regulations have exempted for the time being one and two family homes. It is hoped eventually to cover all gas appliance installations in Ontario. The depart- ment felt that persons installing appliances in buildings open to the general public should be certified first due to the large number of people affected by the installa- tions. Individual gas companies have also conducted training courses. Throughout its area Northern Ontario Gas Co. Ltd., and Twin City Gas Co. Ltd., for example, have held lecture series for employees, from the newest 'to the most experienced These companies have issued their lectures in pamphlet form for permanent filing and study by their staffs. Another organization which has done staff trajning is Consumers Gas Co., which established a series of training schools for plumbers and gas appliance dealers at. Toronto early this year. Classes were held for two week periods, and extended also tothe Georgian Bay area and Ottawa, where th company operates.
