THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursday, August 24, 1961 3 after. Sea Rangers is one of the three senior branches of Guid- ing with the other two being Air Rangers and Land Rangers. They are a group of girls rang- ing in age from 14 to 21 and are interested in learning about the seas and ships. Even though they are a branch of the Girl Guide Association, they try to follow navy regulations. The officers hold the title of Skip- per, Mate, and Chief Petty Officer instead of Captain, Lieu- tenant and Patrol Leader as thev do in Guides. Every summer while other branches of Guiding are having a holiday, the Rangers of SRS Crusader meet at the Oshawa harbor for a weekly cutter prac- tice. A cutter, by the way, is a large row-boat with a pointed bow and square stern which seats 11 girls. Ten girls are rowing and one is setting the course with a rudder. As the beginning of school rolls around again, they begin to practice several times weekly in order to be in good condition for the regatta which is held in Toronto. 'Oshawa Rover Round Table Holds Annual Elections Not too long ago, the Rangers had a comnatition with the T) MV, Rose, 7th Rover Crew at Camp odalde ache tney ested their skill agains' the "~~ = pitching and fire-lighting. The evening was finished with a blind-folded congo line, barbe- que and campfire. During ¢camp- fire, the results of the testing were announced and the win- ners received their trophy. The boys put up a good fight but the girls won the cup to put in the Blue Grotto. The Blue Grotto is a room in the Guide House which the Rangers are trying decorate in a nautical design This room, althongh not: vet completed, "will be a place where they can go and spend a quiet evening with the rest of the Rangers. If there are any girls inter- ested in joining Sea Rangers, please contact Miss J. Nesbitt, 723-2773, Miss A. Jones 723-4175, or Miss S. Gaskell 723-3355. Dine At . . .
