Plan Reception For Marathoner AJAX (Staff) If Walter (Peg Leg) Piotrowski reaches Ajax by Aug. 17 on his mara- thon hop from Montreal to To- ronto, it is very likely that Mayor William Parish of Ajax and the walker's family will of- ficially congratulate him on his last leg of the 350-mile jour ney. Walter, aged 53, a town works employee, left Montreal on Thursday and expects to arrive in Toronto on Friday, Aug. 18. The reason for the lengthy "jaunt" is to prove to such marathon walkers as Dr. Bar| bara Moore that, although he| has one leg, he can '"'show them a thing or two". The marathon jaunt is also being made by Walter to cele- brate the 30th anniversary of the loss of his left leg. He lost it way back in 1932 when he fell off a merry-go-round in Prince Albert, Sask. 25-POUND PACK He will carry a 25-pound pack and hopes to average 35 miles The concensus in Ajax is that and walk the entire distance be- cause of his "inestimable cour- age". He trained for the walk by hiking up to 35 miles a day with the same pack on his back and has proved to the local children that he can ride a bicycle as well as any of them. Walter Piotrowski resides at 15 Durham street, Ajax, with his wife and 10-year-old daugh- ter. He also has a married son. Thursday, Aug. 17, will be a big day for the entire family when he strides into Ajax to, what is hoped to be, a great welcoming reception.
