Viet Nam Rebels Hit Near Saigon SAIGON (AP) -- Communist rebels in South Viet Nam have launched a new round of attacks réaching closer to Saigon than ever before. The sound of gun- fire is heard often from areas around this capital. "The number of Communist incidents north of Saigon has doubled in the last two weeks," an informed Vietnamese source said Sunday. There has been an upswing in rebel raids and assassinations around the nation. But the bulk of the activity is said to be in northern areas -- in the prov- inces that stretch across the country just above Saigon and in the mountains and plateaus farther north near the borders of Cambodia and Laos.
