Stretched across a wide ex-| panse along the south-western | shore of beautiful Lake Scugog, | Palmer Memorial Park offers everything to make that planned | picnic one of perfect enjoyment. There are plenty of picnic tables provided in Palmer Park and plenty of shade trees sur- round many of these tables to add to the enjoyment of dinner in the park. Even. if you don't go to Palmer Park with food already prepared for the picnic table you can still get it nearby. There is | a refreshment stand at the] north end of the park, near gov- ernment wharf in Port Perry a mobile chip truck parks at the south end of the park every weekend This park offers more than Just a place to have a picnic. There are plenty of facilities for children's play, and there is the lakefront forming the east- ern border of Palmer Park. There is plenty of open space | to just sit in the sun and watch the activity which abounds on Scugog. What's more, one can git almost anywhere on the lake- | frontwall and wet a fishing | ¥ine. | Fishing from the park is not! all in vain either. Plenty of tender catfish have been pulled out right there and what's nicer {than fresh fish cooked over an | open fire. Bass abound in Scu- gog and lots of these are pulled out right around Palmer Park too. The Port Perry Chamber of Commerce has been greatly interested in lakefront develop- ment. Its members did not for- get the park Huge refuse con- tainers have been provided through the efforts of the Cham- ber membership to assist in keeping it a place that can be enjoyed and that Port Perry residents can remain proud of. ON SURF Something that cannot be over- looked while sitting in almost any spot in Palmer Park is the mooring area surrounding the Port Perry Yacht Club. Boats of all types and sizes can be seen bobbing gently on the surf. Sailboats, which add beauty to any water body rock gently at their moorings around the yacht club dock. Eyes often | focus in their direction. To the east of the park is the Highway 7A causeway which | connects Scugog Island with the mainland. The road level was | raised four feet this year to pre- vent springtime flooding and it is well worth a little drive after a day at Palmer Park.
