The evening was opened with a sing-song and then mov- ies were shown of their wed- ding. Two lovely lamps and a purse of money were presented as a gift from the community. The address was read by Miss Isabelle Corner. On Sunday Michael Robert Haight was baptized by Rev. R. H. Love in Columbus Unit- ed Church. Mrs. Levi Ellins and Mrs. Mary Dyer held a barbecue party at the former's home in honor of the Columbus Base- ball team. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pereman were honored guests. Mrs. Frank Hayes and Bev- erly were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Beath and family. Mr. and Mrs. Stafford Cos- way entertained Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Catton from Port Perry on Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grills held a picnic for their family and grandchildren last week. Mr. Oliver McCulloch is re- covering from surgery in Osh- awa Hospital and we wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Elliott from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, visited Mr. and Mrs. H. Moun- tenay on Sunday and held a family picnic. Bates are on a month's vacation by mo- tor to Western Canada. Misses Beverley McRobbie and Linda Rundle left by air for a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Holyoak, Vancouver. Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Tennant and Mark have returned from a week's vacation at Kirkfield, Ont. Tom Mason, Allan Plummer and John Phillips spent a few days at Presque'lle. HOLD TEA BOWMANVILLE -- A tea and bake sale was held by the La- dies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion in the Legion Hall on Friday afternoon. The proceeds will go towards the furniture and equipment of a four-hed ward in: the few wing' of Memorial Hospital to be donated by Branch 178 of the Canadian Le- gion and the Ladies Auxiliary. Glenholme Hughes, the Hos- pital Board Chairman opened the tea and spoke of the effi- cient help given by the auxiliary to the legion and the commun- ity. The hall was decorated with sprays of summer flowers. Two large baskets of peonies adorn- ed the stage. A wishing well was placed in the centre of the hall. President M. Bates and Com- rade I. Candler presided over the teacups. Pink and yellow roses centered the serving table which was lighted by tall pink and white tapers in crystal can- dlesticks. Comrade S. Graham read the teacups. Those serving were the convener, Comrade Jean Firth, second vice-presi- dent E. Rundle, Comrade Au- drey Fletcher, Comrade Mona Swan, Comrade R. Bathgate and Comrade F. Bruce, Com- rade M. Lawrie, Jenny Harn- den, C. Hall, A. Clapp, G. Dow- ney, K. Newman and V. Somer- scales. First vice-president A. Bate was in charge of the tickets for door prizes and the winners were: Mrs. L. C. Mason, Mrs. Rose Palmer, Mrs. S. Murdoch, Mrs. R. E. Richards and Mrs. C. Hall. Comrade V. Fletcher was convener of the bake table with Comrade A. Butler and Com- rade A. Dilling assisting. Comrade R. Palmer was in charge of the candy table. Com- rade G. Murdoch was in charge of the touch and take table. Comrade B. Woodward was in charge of the white elephant table. Comrade H. Humphrey was sgjling tickets on a special draw 10 articles which will be drawn for in September.
