NEW YORK (CP)--Discovery of what may prove to be two more natural satellites of the earth, in addition to the moon, has heen reported by a Polish astronomer. Dr. K. Kordylewski of Cracow| Observatory described the sight: ing of two faint, cloud-like ob- jects circling the earth a moon's distance away. He said he had photographed them four times on two different occasions His report, which gave few de-| tails of the sightings, was printed in a circular of the In- ternational Astronomical Union and quoted here in the maga- zine Sky and Telescope | American astronomers de. scribed the report as '"'very in. teresting" but pointed out that the new moons probably would not make the record books be cause they were too insignificant! as celestial bodies go Dr. Kenneth 1. Franklin of the American Museum-Hayden Planetarium said that from in- formation available it appeared the two objects were not solid bodies but swarms of meteoric materials caught in a "pocket" of low gravitational field strength of the earth-moon sys- tem. The pocket is 80 degrees ahead of the moon and in its or bit. It is equidistant from the earth and moon, about 250.000 miles away: Dr. Kordylewski suggested a| second pocket 60 degrees behind the moon in a similar orienta- tion may also contain satellites He apparently plans to look for them there next January. when conditions will be favorable BRITISH MEASURE The British, or "long" ten. is 2.240 pounds, and the British SHOP EARLY!
