Heimrath won the race far FH ahead of all competition. At the end of the first lap he was seven seconds ahead of the second- place Francis Bradley, driving a Lola Climax. Before seven laps were finished, in the 25-lap ordeal, he had lapped five of the other cars. The race climaxed the 1ith annual sports car races, organ- ized by the British Empire Motor Club. Six races preceded the feature: The first six cars in each race qualified for the seventh race. Heimrath set a lap record of one minute and 49 seconds. This is an average of about 80 m.p.h. around a track filled with cur- ves and hills. Track experts predict that Sterling Moss, in the Lotus 19, will lap the new track in a minute and 30 seconds on June 24. The Jaguar XKSS, which had finished third overall in the fourth race, developed trans- mission trouble at the starting line of the feature. Part of the field was held up a few sec- onds when Nat Adams, of Tor- onto, couldn't get the car in gear. He got it rolling, then dropped from the race. The "Jag" had been defeated by the Makins Special and the Lotus Mark 15 in the fourth race, for cars over 1600 cc, modified. More than 8000 spectators Saturday. Entries ci Toronto, Willowdale, King, Oril- lia, Burlington, Waterdown, Au- rora, Cooksville, Oakville, Ham- ilton, Montreal, Galt, Kingston, Clemens, Mich., and Pierre Fonds, Que. After the races, a banquet and presentation of tro- pries was held at the Legion Hall, in Bowmanville. No one was injured during Saturday's meet, but members of the St. Johns Ambulance brigade, from Oshawa, were on hand to keep an eye on things. Sixteen members of the bri- gade, under Superintendent Greg Bradley and Sergeant George Clarke, attended the track all day Saturday. By GERRY BLAIR Brooklin Hillcrests moved into undisputed possession of "A" standings by doubling the score on the fourth-spot St. Ca- tharines Athletics 10-5, Satur- day night in the Brooklin Com- munity arena. The season's largest turnout, 500, were treat- ed to a splendid display by the Hillcrests, who were in com- mand throughout the entire con- test. Brooklin now trails Port Credit Sailors, by only two points, and the league-leading .Brampton Ramblers by four. However, the Hillcrests have games in hand over both clubs, and possess an identical loss column record, of two defeats, St. Catharines missed the op- portunity to remain tied with Brookimn by blowing.a 6-5 lead, with dnly two minutes remain- ing in their Friday night home contest 'against the league-lead- ers. Port Credit stayed ahead of Brooklin by handing the Niagara Falls Scobies their fifth loss, 14-4, right in Niag- ara. The Scobies have yet to claim a victory. In Saturday's affair, the Hill crests held leads of 4-0 and 7-1, and were only seriously threat- ened once, when St. Kitts ral- lied for four goals while trailing 7-1, but that's as close as they could come. Three more Brook- lin tallies in the final 10 min- utes of the game, erased any doubt 'of the outcome. Glen Lotton, last year with ada champion Whitby Red Wings led the scoring with two goals and a pair of assists. Larry Ferguson and Bob Car- negie aiso scored twice. Single counters came from Terry Davis, Bill Short, Gerry Bur- rows and Don Bruce. Ross Powless, with two goals and an assist, was tops for the Athletics. Jake Bomberry, Gary Moore (not of TV fame) and Gary Hind added single- tons. BOXLA SHORTS . . .
