That's because Detroit pitch- ers had gone the distance 16 times in 36 games up until Tuesday, by far the best record in the league. Marguerite, Quebec, boosted his Queen's Plate stock| Tuesday when he won the River- side Purse at Old Woodbine race track. It was the first start of the season for the Quebec horse which is listed among the pos- sible runners in the $70,000 Ca- nadian classic at New Wood- bine Saturday, June 17. Soccer League Given Approval From Europe MONTREAL (CP) -- An offi- cial of the Montreal Concordia soccer club said Tuesday two high executives of the Interna- tional Football Federation have given verbal approval of the schedule and regulations of the newly formed International Soc- cer League. The official said Dr. Helmuth Kaesar, secretary of the feder- ation, and Sir Stanley Rous, sec- retary of the English Football Association and an executive of IFA, both gave their blessing to the league in overseas tele phone conversations with Con- cordia Tuesday. Official approval of the league, which has its headquar- ters in New York, had been withheld until copies of its reg- ulations reached federation headquarters in Zurich, Switzer- land.
