The brigade, led by fire fighter James Corner, had started to spray water on the grease pans which were on fire but when the cold water met the hot grease, an explosion blew the 6-foot by 11-foot plate glass window out on the street. Later, Corner crawled into the restaurant on his hands and knees, below the smoke, and turned off the gas jets which heated the grease. Damage is estimated at $300. Mrs. J. On May 10, he said, he ques- tioned McNeil in the Ajax Police Department, and the accused admitted the theft but also re- ported that he had returned the camera to the store in Whitby some hours earlier.
