OF STRAWBERRIES IN YOUR GARDEN ..e Red, Yellow Paint Jobs For Ducks SACKVILLE, NB. (CP) -- Eight hundred black ducks wintering at Montague, P.E.I have had their wings daubed with red or yellow dye in the continuation of a study of their breeding habits. It's part of a program carried out by the Maritime branch of the Canadian Wildlife Service. Some 300 black ducks were marked last spring and the branch, encouraged by the pub- lic response, decided to continue the study this year. Drakes are daubed with red dye on the underwing feathers and females get a yellow mark- ing. Biologist C. O. Bartlett says his branch received reports of breeding migration from many points in Newfoundland and around the Gulf of St. Lawrence last year. Anyone spotting the painted ducks is asked to forward in- formation on where they were sighted to wildlife service head. quarters in Ottawa. The pro- gram lasts until early June when spring moulting causes the ducks to shed their painted feathers.
