Thursday, Mey 4, T961 11 + THE OSHAWA TIMES, Kedron U.C. Holds Meeting | KEDRON -- On Friday even- ing a special meeting was held at Kedron United Church at which Rev. Ronald H. Love ex-| plained to the members of the; WA the organization of United Church Women, which at the end of the year will replace the Women's Auxiliary and the! Women's Missionary Society. The meeting began with a worship service conducted by Mrs. Lauretta Crossman and Mrs. Jack Glover. The ladies of the choir sang "Softly and Ten- derly Jesus Is Calling", and Mrs. Douglas Love sang "O Master I Would Follow Thee". A provisional committee was appointed which will work with Mr. Love and Mr. Vernon Pow- ell to organize this new wom-| en's endeavor at Kedron. The members are Mrs. William Werry, Mrs Brian Lee, Mrs. Douglas Love, Mrs. Joe Starr, Mrs. Grant Glover, Mrs. Wil-| liam Woodward, Mrs. William Hancock, Mrs. George Mitch- ell and Mrs. Alvin Spencer. At the close of the meeting a lunch was served by the mem-| bers of the executive of the Women's -Auxiliary. { SPECIAL CEREMONY On Wednesday afternoon a special ceremony was held for the 20th Brownie Pack when the mothers were present to see six new members enrolled in the pack. The new Brownies, who proudly wore their uniforms for the first time were Regina Schleiss, Marie. Gooding, Susan Souch and Patti Hart. Two members who were not able to attend, Pamela Dowling and Heather Marshall, will be en- rolled at the next meeting. Tawny Owl, Mrs. Ted Maid man, was presented with her warrant. Brenda Hopkins re- ceived her Sixer stripe and Sharon MacKinnon received her Golden Bar and Seconder stripe. At an executive meeting of the Women's Auxiliary Mrs. Ev- erett Mountjoy reported on the count that had been made of church dishes. It was agreed that enough additional dishes should be purchased to bring the set up to 14 dozen of every- thing before the Kedron Country Style Supper, which will be held on June 14, The May meeting of the Wo- men's Auxiliary will be held t the manse on the evening of ay 10. The Double's Club are plan- ning a Pot Luck Supper on Sat-| urday, May 6, at which every- one is welcome. | PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. James Brown and Michael, of Hamilton, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Werry. | Mrs. Robert Dale spent two days last week with her mother, Mrs. Eva Dunlop, who lives in Orillia. Mrs. Dunlop will be spending this week with Mr, and Mrs. Robert Dale and fam- ily. On Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Werry entertained Mr. John Luke of Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Lee and Susan. Mrs. Earl Hurst entertained a group of her neighbors on Monday evening. Cecile Names Welfare Body TORONTO (CP) -- Formation of an advisory committee on welfare was announced by Wel- fare Minister Cecile Wednes- day. He said he is setting up the committee to advise him on ways of modernizing child wel fare legislation and streamlin- ing adoption procedure. It will be headed by Charles J. Foster retired chairman of the Ontario Civil Service Commission. Mr. Cecile told a convention of Children's Aid Societies of Ontario he hopes the commit- tee will report before the next session of the legislature Other members of the com- mittee include: Rev. Swithum Bowers, direc- tor of the school of social work, University of Ottawa; R. A. O'- Brien, of the Kingston Whig- Standard; R. L. Whittington, executive director of the Chat- ham C.AS. Speaking later from the same platform, Mayor J. W. C. Lang- muir of Brockville, president of the Ontario Municipal Associa- tion, proposed & royal commis sion study of "our expe and haphazard welfare sys- tem."
