As a matter of fact, they arrived yesterday afternoon, In recent years, when Chatham met Oshawa in OBA play- off competition, it was almost always "Chatham Moose" ~but thiz 1960 season brings a switch. It seems that this year, Chatham Legion, Branch No. 431, is sponsor- ing the Bantam team that won the Western Ontario honors. This afternoon, here at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium, it's the first game of the Ontario champion~ ship finals in OBA Bantam ranks, between Oshawa Legion and Chatham Legion. The Chatham team, real serious about this affair, landed in here yesterday after- noon and had a workout, That's the Bantams! The "oldies" on the trip also had a workout---but that came later, As far as we could determine, they have the following hard-working baseball enthusiasts with them: Ian Clarke of the Oshawa Dairy Legion Bantams and Bill Campbell, secretary-treasurer of the Legion Minor Association, constituted the welcoming committee, Jack Paul is one of the Chatham No. 431 coaches and with him, he has Ross Day, manager of the team and Bill Swift, another coach. Gerry Charlton, from Chatham News, is the official scorer and Casey Maynard is the No. 1 Public Relations Officer of the club. Other en- thusiasts in the party include Doug Day, Alex Frain, Gord Miller and Harry Jones, all minor baseball boosters in Chatham. The first game of their All-Ontario OBA final series, ig scheduled for this afternoon, here at the Stadium and then they go back to Chatham to finish the series, next week-end. And that's just how it will work out! THE WEATHERMAN, who has been very obliging this past three weeks, has threatened to "spit" on pro- ceedings this afternoon, We hope he restrains himself until about midnight, We have four key games in OASA playoff competition, booked for this afternoon and even ing and we would very much like to see them played. If they can get winners today, the situation will be fairly comfortable, from now until Thanksgiving Day week- end, Besides the OBA Bantam playoff game here at the Stadium this afternoon, our next "local" attraction is the OASA Junior "A" game tonight, between Scugog Cleaners and the visiting Woodstock Juniors. Three key games are on tap this afternoon, all scheduled for four o'clocks -- which is why we hope the weatherman co- operates, It's Weston and Fernhill in Midget third game at Pickering; Port Perry vs. Wellsley, at Port Perry, first game of their series and Brooklin vs. Mount Hope, in Willowdale, 3rd and deciding game--all three at four o'clock this afternoon, It boils down to this--if they get these games played off today, we'll have a pretty good idea of just how much softball action we can expect around these parts at the close of this season.
