GOLFING FAMILY -- A pho- tographer managed to round up | 11 of the 16 brothers, uncles, nephews and cousins who make | up Quebec's Royal Family of Golf. The entire family of golf- | a ing Huots recently participated in a special tournament near | Montreal. Winner was Roland | Huot (left, back row), one of eight brothers in the senior generation. Others in this photo | SPORT SNAPSHOTS There Are 16 Huots In This Golf Family MONTREAL (CP)--The want- to-be-helpful fellow who told the golf gallery that "Huot is lead- ing" spread more confusion than news There were 16 Huots in the big pro-amateur tournament at the Granby-St. Paul club 50 miles east of Montreal Quebec's Royal Family of Golf was out in full force--brothers, sons, nephews, uncles and cous- ns Jules, the vetersn of them all, and Rudolphe are the best-known Huots in Canadian big-time golf They rank among the top Cana- dian pros. Yet the rest of the Huots, pro and amateur, can also ¢ a workmanlike job at golf. They play mostly in tournaments within Quebec, and a few of them might be classed as business- men-golfers--all avid players Unhappily for the Huots, none of them among the field of 200 won the pro-amateur tournament at Granby-St. Paul. But there was a separate tournament there for the Huots only. The winner was Rodolphe, who is a brother of Jules, and Jules is an uncle Let's try this again. There are eight pros and eight amateurs in la famille Huot du golf. Eight of the older Huots are brothers -- four pros and four amateurs. In the younger genera- tion there are three golfing broth- ers in one family and two in an- other, sons of golfing fathers. SAME FIRST NAMES If this scrambles up the rela- tionship as to uncles, cousins, nephews and so on, just wait. In the clan are two Maurices an? two Raymonds and--so help us -- a Gerard-Raymond and a plain Gerry Jules is the patriarch. He started as a caddy in his native Quebec City. He became an as- sistant pro and finaily a full- fledged pro. A few years ago he moved from the Royal Quebec Club to the swanky Laval-sur-le- Lac Club in suburban Montreal. With training now in full swing in most of the major clubs, the transfer market can be expected to become quite lively after a ball fans wended their way to their favorite grounds to see the| league teams in action. | Under a new ruling by the League management committee, soccer on Friday night, Satur-| day night or even Saturday morn- ing will be permitted by the League during the coming season | as exceptions to the traditional | Saturday afternoon fixtures. This| is part of a progressive plan which allows clubs greater free- dom in adjusting their kick-off times to suit local conditions. EXPECT BIGGER CROWDS | The clubs expect that the pay- off will come in a boom at the) box offices. If a club believes that | it can attract a larger crowd by playing on Friday or Saturday evening rather than Saturday af- ternoon, it can do so by taking three steps. It must get the agree- ment of the visiting club, give the Football League HQ about a month's notice of the request in order to simplify administration, and provide the League with de- tails of its reasons for wanting the change. A League official commented! that any reasonable request would receive sympathetic con- sideration from the management committee. The first request for a change in kick-off time will be coming from Tottenham Hotspur. They, want to switch their local derby | . match with West Ham United on| December 24 from Saturday af-| ternoon to forenoon. They hope to gather in the fans in the morning before they go out for their last hour Christmas shopping. Soccer-saturated areas like Lancashire and London can also experiment with staggered fix- tures. The old tradition of Satur- day afternoon soccer is still cher- ished by the Football League. It will continue in the main.
