Now there's a sports subject --if there ever was one--for those characters who are just as full of sportsmanship as anybody but get their fun "outdcors" instead of sports physical collision. The Upland Bird Dog Club of Oshawa is to hold its second annual "Spring Field Trials" this Sunday, April 24, here in Oshawa, at Wilson Road North, just north of Taunton Road. The trials are open to all "pointing" breeds and dogs from any part of Ontario may compete. Dave Fletcher; 117 Harmony Road South, phone RA 3-3050, is the contact man for this event. Now this is a "must" to all bird-dog fanciers and our only regret is that friend Dave Fletcher took this long to remind us of the event. However, it's a big "do" for the bird-dog lovers and along with Dave and his cohorts, we hope they have a splendid turnout this week-end. Now Dave --young fellow--we've taken you off the, hook, even though you were very tardy. But--if you get the re sults of your "Trials" into our office by Sunday, mid= night--we promise to publish them in Monday's paper. The rest is up to you, chum! There are still some important hockey games being played these days but at the moment, most sports fans are turning their interests towards baseball. Toronto Maple Leafs got off on the right foot last night, with a win in Richmond. But the big baseball news concerns Mike McCormick who hurled a two-hitter against the Dodgers yesterday and bunted safely with two out, in the fifth inning, to set the stage for San Francisco's lone run of the game and a 1-0 victory. Roy McMillan of Cincinnati Reds, with two homers and two singles for a total of five RBI's, paced the Redlegs to a 10-5 win over Milwaukee Braves. Other Major League baseball news included Detroit's 6-4 win over Cleveland Indians, with Rocky Colavito and Norm Cash both hitting homers for the Tigers . .... BOSTON RED SOX defeated N.Y. Yankees 7-1 yesterday with Jerry Cassale pitching and hitting the Sox to the wir y BRIGHT BITS: Edmonton Oil Kings ousted Bran- don Wheat Kings in the 7th game of their Western Canada Memorial Cup series, to earn the right to fight for the Canadian Junior hockey crown, against either St. Kitts Teepees or Brockville. . . . We imagine Sammy couldn't care less and perhaps is only getting even for the rough time he had, following his honest admission of a few weeks ago, when he claims he deliberately 0st a match, rather than create a controversy .. . . AMATEUR HOCKEY ? Edmonton Oil Kings won the 'Abbott Cup (Western Canada title) in Junior hockey and now they're going to add half-a-team, six players, Yo their roster, for the Memorial Cup finals. When is this nonsense going to stop? ADDING SIX players is next thing to making the Memorial Cup finals an All-West All-Star team vs the Eastern Canada champions--and if the Eastern team squawks, just a Jittle--who can blame them? : CHARLIE RUSSELL, manager of Scugog Cleaners Juniors for the 'past two seasons, OASA champs in 1958 and runners- ap last year, is going to run another Junior softball 'team this summer..
