TU tne vuniawA TIMES, Friday, March 11, 1960 CANADIAN CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' ONTARIO'S curling representatives in the annual Canadian "Brier" championships out at Fort William, eame up with three more wins yesterday, two of them in the brilliant class. Most sensational game of course was the Ontario victory over Saskatchewan's highly- favored entry, the Richardson boys. "Jake" Edwards and his Kingston rink defeated the Richardson 11-6, in the severeh round. It was the first defeat of the champ- ionship tournament, a round-robin affair, for the de- fending Canadian champs and put Kingston in a tie with Saskatchewan for top honors, each having lost only one game. In the sixth round, (Wednesday night) Edwards and his men won 10-7 over Nova Scotia but more important, following their morning win over Saskatchewan, the Kingston squad came right back to defeat Manitoba 10-8. The Manitoba rink was earlier rated as the rink having the best chance (along with Alberta) of dethroning the Saskatchewan champions. rio scheduled to play Prince Edward Island and Quebec, in the 10th and 11th rounds today, it could be that Ontario can win the rest of their games and so qualify for at least a sudden-death playoff game, against ne of writing, we hadn't heard io or katchewan made out in their d games, played late last night, York Rangers tied Boston Bruins 3-3 last ston. Teepees Win With Petes For Play-Oif By THE CANADIAN PRESS Peterborough and St. Cathar- nes emerged victorious from the Ontario Hockey Association Jun- ior A quarter-finals last night, but their records in the best-of-seven series were vastly different. Peterborough Petes beat Bar- rie Flyers for the last time this season 10-3 to take their series with three wins, two ties and a loss. St. Catharines Teepees PEL {downed Guelph Biltmores 6-4 to win their series 4-1. Peterborough won the B series only after a stiff fight and high goal scoring. They outscored Barrie 30-19 in goals. Teepees, however, won their series in five games, but were tied in goals with the Biltmores. Both scored 19 goals.
