For the first time in the 130- year-old history of Oxford row- ing, a group of oarsmen has openly challenged the authority of the president of the univer- sity's boat club, an act somewhat equivalent to a group of cabinet ministers publicly quarrel ling with the prime minister. Adding to the consternation along the big, barn - like boat- houses on the banks of the River Isis is the fact the challenge has come from a group of Oxford "bluef," including several mem- bers of the crew that was de- feated by Cambridge in the clas- sic Boat Race last spring. The immediate cause of the trouble is disagreement over |training methods.
