The aims and objects of this association are as follows: To bring into closer relation through organized association the recipi- ents of the Silver Cross (Memo- rial Cross); "to further the wel- fare of widows and mothers of former personnel of the three servies, navy, army, and air- force, also the fire fighters and merchant marines who were kill- ed in action or who died in con- sequence of service, and the former personnel who are hospi- | talized or in need of other assist- ance. i Our funds are raised with a spring tea, tag day, fall bazaar and games and draws at our monthly social evenings. This past year we have con- tinued our work in Sunnybrook Hospital (Toronto), Fairview Lodge (Whitby). Donated a wheelchair to the Oshawa Cere- bral Palsy Society and donations to. other children's societies in Oshawa. Our own members have been taken care of during their sickness, and others who have been bereaved during the year. The sick and needy we have with us always. There is always work for will- ing hands to do, and we will wel- come any Silver Cross mother or wife who feels she would like to help us in our work. Our meet- ings are held every second Thurs- day afternoon of the month in the Legion Hall on Centre street, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Evening Social meeting is held in Simcoe Hall, Simcoe street south, on the first Mon- day of the month, from 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The present executive: presi- dent, Mrs. V. An annual pure food sale has been held for as long as this chapter has been in existence -- always a toothsome and very much look- ed-forward-to affair. The biggest project of the sea- son is our annual bazaar which has been held for nine successive vears. These bazaars have always been a tremendous success. The entire membership is deeply grateful to the public which has so generously supported it both by. donations and purchases while attending the bazaar. Considerable proportions of the funds raised is left here in Osh- awa by donations to. local charit- ies such as The Community Chest and the Oshawa General Hospi- tal. The rest of the money is spent in Canada for use in Israel such as supplies for medical serv- ices, clothing, 1inens, blankets, implements for farming, building materials and other products in great need. s Canadian Hadassah is in charge of: : Nahalal -- a complete scientif- ic agricultural training school for girls and boys. Onward Group Known for Catering The Onward Group of Harmony W.A. was formed in January, 1952, when the large group was divided into two smaller groups. The meetings were held in the women's homes at first but as the membership enlarged it was necessary to hold the meetings in the. Church parlor. Our: main project to raise money was a fall bazaar with both groups joining in selling their goods. We also held fashion shows, teas, rummage sales and candy sales to raise money for our Christian Educational Centre, After the buiiding was erected we were able to cater to other organizaticns and also hold a tur- key supper both in the &pring and fall. This year's fall supper is to be held on Nov. 22. Many enjoyable social even- ings are enjoyed during the year with special meetings at Christ- mas and also in June.
