The membership consisted of Mesdames Alexander, Dear- bourne, Coyston, Dennis, Fice, Parker, 'Solomon, Sykes, Woolley and others.- As the membership of the Mis- sion School grew, it became known as the North Oshawa Unit- ed Church and the Ladies' Aid became the WA. In 1946 the original frame build- ing was moved to its present lo- eation. At this time the WA raised money, by such means as pot Juck suppers, bazaars, quiltings and teas, to renovate the build- ing, and rebuild the pulpit. They purchased a piano, and provided the singing for special services. | Smiles come to the faces of the | ladies of the WA as they recall | the times they cleaned the stove- pipes or scrubbed the floors on | bands and knees! Cupboards | were built in the first kitchen, and dishes and silverware, etc., to use to raise money. By this time the original WA had grown to 2 in number, and a group of young married ladies was form- ed, known as the Nellie Dear- bourne Group of the WA. Later, a group of young busi- | ness girls was formed, known as Rie Jane Dennis Group of the In 1948 an addition was built, which is the present church. Both groups took part in fur- nishing the floor covering and donating to the building fund. With the formation of a choir, a sizeable donation was made to- wards the purchase of choir gowns, and later to the purchase of an electric organ. In 1958, with the addition of a youth centre, the WA have fur- nished the new kitchen, and Stephen's WA necessary furnishings for the building with all surplus money going to the building fund: A united effort in 1958 was a dedi- cation turkey supper, which was a great success, with all proceeds going to the building fund. 1958 officers of the W:A presi- dent, Mrs. Ray Smith; vice-pres- ident, Mrs. Frank Crawford: re- cordng secretary, Mrs. Madge Lindsay; treasurer.
