Barlow is the president of the Lyceum Club and Wo- men's Art Association, Oshawa Branch. ; amd won by Bill Marshall, A prize to the best student in Special Commercial at the OCVI was won by Mary Capik. Miss Dorothy Redpath, the best student nurse in theory in the in- termediate year at the Oshawa General Hospital received a prize. The UNICEF fund is helped each year by the sale of Christ- mas cards. Christmas Cheer is provided fur a few needy elderly people. The club purchased an electric clothes dryer for 'Halliday Manor' and the City Council sent a 'letter of appreciation and thanks for ihe welcome gift. Following is a brief review of a few of the club's interesting meetings during the past year: The fifteenth anniversary of the local club was celebrated by a banquet at the Hotel Genosha, at which Councillor Jean Newman of Toronto was the special speaker. Former past-presidents of the club spoke briefly. A Christmas buffet supper and party was enjoyed by the mem- bers att he home of the presi- dent, Miss Rose Hawkes, and her sister. The speaker was Fern the Central Collegiate . Institute, Oxley, who spoke about *'Christ- mas in other Lands." International Night was duly observed when Mrs. Joan Pinto, a native of Bombay, presently liv- ing in Oshawa, gave an enlighten- ing talk about "Women of India". Mrs. Madsen of Cherry Hill Farm near Markham, told of the "Danish Folk School" conducted there by her and her assistants. The annual bridge at Simcoe Hall in October, to raise funds for the projects was a great suc- cess. Delegates attended the Region- al Conference at Port Hope, the Provincial Confrence at Ottawa while four club members, includ- ing the president, Miss R. Hawkes, attended the National Conference at Edinonton. Four members attended t he United Nations Seminar in New York and reported to the club. Auxiliary Local 205 Takes Old Folks On Bus Tours The Tannery Ladies' Auxiliasy was organized in July, 1947. We officers at present are: Presidesf, Sister Pearl Badour; vice - pres dent, . Sister Grace Gledhill treasurer, Sister Florence Kites en; recording secretary, Sistes Sarah Massey; sick convenes, Sister Viola Magee; auditors, Ske ters Myrtle Magee and Jo Trigg Our meetings are held once s month at the Union Hall, The Auxiliary's favorite charity Fairview Lodge to which we have donated wheel-chairs, radios, andl have taken the residents on numae erous bus trips. ' We have also donated to Cerebral Palsy fund. Reta children, Salvation Army and numerous others. Every year & Christmas party is given for the Tannery Workers children. Ouse funds are raised through ows bingos which at present, we once a month. Business Women Aid UNICEF By Sale Of Christmas Cards In November, 1942, the Busi- ness and Professional Women's Club of Oshawa received its Char- ter, thus joining a vast group of gainfully employed women, whose alm is to encourage women to ac- cept responsibility on the job and im the community and to safe- rights, Since the first B and PW Club was organized in St. Louis, Mis- souri, in 1919, membership has reached well over half a million. Canada joined the International Federation in 1930. Membership fm any club is an open sesame, to the privileges of any BP and W Club in any place or country in the world, and the good spirit, in which members from all coum- tries fraternize is a lesson in in- ternational relations. The Charter president of the Oshawa Club was Mrs. Mary Nobes, followed by Miss V. Lid- kea, Mrs. H. P. Bull, Mrs. Mary Telford, Dr. Thelma Blair, Miss Jennie Pringle, Mrs. Dorothy Grosart, Miss Audrey Lawler, Miss Rose Hawkes and Miss Eve- lyr Moore. Once a month at Adelaide House the local club meets to hear guest speakers and reports on the various activities in which the members are interested.
