Women of the Methodist and Congregational The present membership Is over 250,000, not including the members of affiliated Woman's Associations, with an annual budget of $1,300,000, While this figure may seem impressive yet this is only a part of the potenti- ofl of our women whose aim is #0 unite all the women of the Church for the world mission of Christianity. At present, the WMS has 300 qualified women serving as doctors, nurses, tea- { ethers, religious education direc- fieors, laboratory technicians, "thospital visitors social workers, and dietitians in Canada, Trinl- El dad, India, Africa, Korea, Jap- an, Hong King and Formosa. This area of our Society, or- ganized 'hirty years ago, known -| as the Oshawa Presbyterial (one of 105 Presbyterials in the Uni- ted Church) contributed $22,250 last year. Mere figures are not adequate to tell of 'the friend- ship extended to new families jn communities, or to new Canadi- ans, by our members, part wor- kers, and. Churches of All Na- tions. To this may be added the home and hospital calls on sick and aged; the knowledge gained in inspiring meetings, study groups, or literature used in homes and groups of all ages such as Circles, CGIT and Ex- plorer groups, Mission Bands and Baby Bands; also the joy of giving money and supplies to worthy and needy folk through-| out the world. Making Progress Spiritual and Social The 14th Scout Mother's Auxil- fary of Holy Trinity Church was re-organized in February, 1957, after a lapse of over 10 years. Our first president was Mrs. Alex Penwright, The objective of our auxiliary is to assist our Scout and Cub groups through our group com- mittee. To do this, we have ba- zaars, teas, bake sales and candy sales to raise money to finance such activities as Christmas par- ty and Father-and-Son banquets etc, We sew flags, neckerchiefs and bandages for the boys and help them. accumulate some of their camping equipment such as a first aid box and cooking uten- sils. Hobbs, THE OSHAWA TIMES, Friday, October 37, 1958" 15 First Baptist Mission Circle Named For Honorary President The Kate McLaurin Circle of First Baptist Church was formed during the pastorate of the Rev. G. V. Crofoot, in Under the direction of Mrs. Crofoot and with help and advice from the late Miss Kate Mec- Laurin, the young women of the church banded together to form a Young Women's Circie. The late Miss McLaurin had re- tired from active missionary service in India and her mem- bership was with Oshawa First Baptist when the Circle began. It was fitting that the Circle should bear her mame, and she became honorary president until her death. Mrs. A. Goldsmith was elected first president. Throughout the years the Circle has endeavored to maintain a high allotment of givings toward Baptist missionary work in India and Bolivia, and now in Angola, West Africa as well Food parcels are despatched to missionaries in the field, and White Cross work has also been one Relief or clothing parcels are sent out at Christmas, often to the family of a needy Home Mis- sion pastor.
