And the overwhelm- ing enthusiasm of your response, as proven by actual sales, has fully justified our optimism. Latest available figures show that you bought 35,706 General Motors cars and trucks from January 1st through March 10th this year. This is 4,406 more than the num- ber sold during the same period in 1957-- an increase of 14.1%. At the same time, the unsold stock of GM vehicles on hand across the country is practically the same as it was last year. Thanks to your magnificent acceptance of our products, GM plants in Oshawa, Windsor and St. Catharines have been hard at work keeping up with the demand. Currently, more than 18,000 people are ~ employed by General Motors making cars and trucks in Canada. All this activity--the direct result of your purchases--means that our many suppliers, employing thousands more people, are busily at work across Canada. To maintain this activity, General Motors plans to spend more than four hundred million dollars for goods, services and wages in Canada during 1958.
