Thomas Newton Asks Safety Christmas day will mark the 94th birthday of Thomas New- man, who resides with his daugh- ter, Mrs. Elsie Smith, at 406 Henry street in Whitby, In an in- terview with Mr, Newman, he related his vast experiences in his life which he enjoyed so much. He served in the Burmese war in 188587, in the days where a war was won by strength and bayonets. Four years of his life were spent in the Himalayan mountains, and Mount was in plain sight of the camp, he said. Mr. Newman told of one ex- perience when all the troops were put on the ship except his troop, and the troop he was with was ut on a British Steam Naviga- lon Co. boat and taken along the west coast of a jungle island. It was these jungles that in- spired him to paint the "lion."
