They did | not find the creature but on re- turning to the house the mother and son read much about it in a good reference book It's been heartening to run across a number of young par ents who enjoy pets and various wild creatures with their children and who build up companionable relations with the children while cultivating kindness and tender- | ness toward dumb animals. One can't imagine such' children be {ing cruel to any of these crea- tures. But | have a hunch that some of these tendencies might decrease if parents made sure their youngs sters had not merely a proper place for their clothes, but a handy one, ond one that is even fun for them to use. 1 think ene of the most elementary principles Is to make sure the youngsters hove ample closet and drawer space that is with- in their own reach. The best way to provide this, usually, is to buy one of those children's drobes, plete with closet space and drawers (they're not very expensive if you buy them unpainted and paint them yourself), And then there are various types of novelty coat trees which you earr buy or build yourself. As | say, I'm no child psychologist, but it strikes me that the youngster who has his own closet and other storoge facilities is more likely to take pride in putting his things away -- at least some of the time.
