St. Matthew begins his gospel by reciting the genealogy of Je- sus, to show that He was a lineal descendant of David, and the kings reigning after him, and had a right to David's throne. We are told of Joseph's dream in which the angel of the Lord came to him, telling him that his affianced wife would give birth to Him." --Matthew 2:2, a son by the Holy Ghost, and should be calied Jesus, for He would save His people from their sins There were many heroes in Jew- ish history whe had saved their people in wars with the Lord's help, but Jesus was the first dedi- cated to save the people from their sins. When Jesus was born in the town of Bethlchem, three Wise Men, the Magi, as they are called, appeared in Jerusalem, claiming that they were seeking the King of the Jews, whom they wished to worship. They had seen His Star in the East, they said, and it had guided them on their journey. King Herod heard of the Wise Men's questions and their story of the Star thai was their guide, and he was very uneasy. Herod was jealous and cruel where his interests were threatened, so he called together his chief priests and scribes and asked them where the Messiah they were ex- pecting would be porn? In Bethlehem shey told him where it was written by the Pro- phet Micah: "But thou, Bethle- hem, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto me that is to be Ruler in Israel."-- Micah 5:2. ; Then the king called the Wise Men to him and asked them at what time this Star of which they had spoken apyeared? Having re- ceived this information he sent the Wise Men to Bethlehem, tell- ing them to search diligently un- til they found the Babe, then to come back to Terusalem and re- port to him, so that he too, might worship RAGLAN - Many Christmas Parties and Guests RAGLAN "Christmas Came to Our Street" was the topic of family Mr. Saywell"s message on Sun- day afternoon The responsive reading was Psalm 752 The scrip- ture lesson was from St. Luke chapter two, verse twenty - two The choir sang "O Come Littlé Children.
