48 THE DAILY TIMES GAZETTE, Monday, August iii New Brunswick Fishermen Enjoying Excellent Season FREDERICTON (CP) New| Brunswick salmon streams this summer have been producing the best sport fishing in years. A check of camp proprietors and sports outfitters shows highly sat- isfactory results and the waters-- particularly the Miramichi, the Cains and the St. John Rivers- are expected to continue good catches until the end of the fall angling season on Oct. 1. portsmen and camp oOwiers alike have been elated at the way the salmon have been coming in from the bays, drawn by the high cool water due to frequent light rains. "We are as busy with guests and fish as we have been in the last eight years," said Tom Boyd, pro- prietor of cabins at Blackville. Guests were taking both grilse and salr salmon. The grilse on an av- erage weighed four to five pouads Boyd said these lighter fish weve} fighting like 10-pounders. The sal- {mon usually weigh 12 to 18 pounds [with one 22-pounder on record for this year. Clayton Stewart, proprietor of a resort at Boiestown, 'on the Mira- {machi watershed, goes farther than Boyd and claims the current year is the best in 20 years. "In the last five weeks we've averaged five or six a day," Stewart. 'Most are good-sized grilse, but there are salmon from 1 to 15 pounds." Wendell Allen, whose lodges are at the mouth of the Cains River, said his weekend fishing parties were averaging four or five gril and a salmon. St. John River pools above Fred- ericton are producing almost daily catches in the picturésque spots near the capital city. MONTREAL (CP) -- Research] toward widening the control of cancer and finding a cure is beiig materially expanded this year un- der auspices of the Canadian Cancer Society, says F. Lyle Pat- tee, executive secretary of the Quebec division. 'In the last 10 years research in this field has been increased prodigiously," Mr. Pattee said. "Ten years ago only a handful of scientists had applied themselves to solving cancer"s mystery be- cause at that time very little money was avalqabte for such in- vestigation." In the province of Quebec alone more than 40 top-flight doctors and scientists, in the leading hos- pitals and , laboratories, are de- voting their time to work on cancer. "And working with these key investigators in research are!scouts on a hiking trip. being trained for larger responsi- bilities." Radiation treatment had been made more effective through the development of the cobalt bomb and super-voltages up to 24,000,000 volts were being used now in cancer cases. Montreal, with five cobalt 60° therapy units, leads all other cities in the world in ths form of cancer treatment, said Mr. Pattee EATS AFTER WEEK SEATTLE (AP)--Rrchard Mizu- hata, 13-year-old Seattle boy scout who survived six days on Mount Raini.; with virtually no food or water, ate a big breakfast in a Seattle hospital Sunday.
