Campbell SPORTS EDITOR ; OSHAWA beat out St. Thomas Elgins 3-1 here on Saturday night, in what was just about the best bamé of the season. Mgr. Tommy White was on the mound for the Elgins and he had only bad frames, the third when two walks, an error, a sacrifice and two singles enabled the "Motors" to pick up their first two runs and the other the 8th inning, when Fred Witcher, Don Dingwerth and John all singled in succession, for the third Oshawa tally. Don Crawford pitched for Oshawa, a nifty three-hitter, He gave up six walks in few innings but after being hit by a pitched ball--came k stronger than ever, to allow only one hit in the last five in- of shutout ball. Oshawa's fine defensive work, fally in infield, was a highlight of the game, along with two great throws to the plate by Fred Etcher and Cec Hall. Rollie Leveille made sparkling plays on both to prevent a St. Thomas run. On the second one, he was charged heavily by the runner, Bill Winegardin. Leveille had no chance to cover up as he threw himself to tag the runner and he was knocked out in the collision--but held on to the ball, : Roy Lefevre, still nursing a back injury sustained last week end, was not in action. Fred Etcher played his first ball game of the season and did a fine job at 2nd base. Tonight, it's Kitchener. Waterloo Dutch here at Ki Stadium for another Inter. County fixture. Don Dingwerth had two-for-three and John Colvin also had a pair of hits. Ted O'Connor drew a walk to open the third inning and when Cec Hall bunted for a sacrifice, catcher Marc Reaume threw wild ly to 2nd base, leaving al Hands A ! stellar three - hit pitching was supported by a fine brand of defensive play, espec! by Ted O'Connor and Brent 3 field while Fred Etcher also turn- ed in a good game, in his first appearance of the season. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Crawford was hit by a pitched ball, White's throw catching him in the side, For a few minutes it looked as if Crawford might not be able to stay in the game, but as it turned out, he was much more effective after that, giving up only one hit and only two walks, in the last five innings of shutout ball, St. Thomas got their run when Mare Reaume opened the 4th' with a walk, Elmer Cufran singled, then Bill Winegardin bunted for a sacrifice and Crawford, after field- ie the ball, hit Winegardin with safe. Then B c score O'Connor. Rollie Leveille sacrificed to advance Hall and Balazovic and after Fred Etcher had popped up, Dingwerth walked to fill the bases. Etcher, Dingwerth and Colvin all singled in succession, as the 8th inning got under way, Etcher scor- ing on Colvin's drive.
