SPORTS MENU "Everything from Soup to Nuts" by Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR NO-HITS! NO-RUNS! That was the story of Oshawa's loss in their Inter-County game with the Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen here at the Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium last night. A young University student from Michi Dean Finbel pparently land- od in Kitchener over the week-end, in time to qualify for the July 15th deadline, no doubt--and last night he wrote his name in the Inter-County's baseball history book with a no-hit, no-run game. The young left-hander pitchell a fine game, showed a real fine assortment of stuff, including a lizi h p pitch that was very effect- ive. He also received circus-type support on at least three plays, to get his no-hitter, but then the Dutchmen had to show their appre- clation, didn't they ? And they'd be silly not to appreciate that kind of pliching. The win last night put the "Dutchies" in a stronger position in the group race -- --a notch closer to the second-place Brantford Red Sox and widened the game between them and the Oshawa and St. Thomas teams. George Boniface's play at 2nd base to deprive Joe Balazovic of a hit and Irv Ler's snatch of Gary Cope- land's sizzling liner, were two of the standout plays. So was Boni- face's y wi Finkbei imself deflected Rollie Leve- flle's hot drive--for the final out of the game. Two of the visit- ors' runs were unearned when a smart piece of baseball turned into a "boob" due to a hurried throw but even at that, the Dutch- men deserved to win, if only 2-0. After all, Oshawa didn't get a hit, let alone a run. The Motor City team moves into Kitchener tomorrow night and then are idle until Saturday, when St. Thom- as Elgins are here for a doubleheader. DETROIT TIGERS have been sold! It was announced yesterday that the Michigan radio executives Fred Knorr and John Fetzer, a syndicate that includes Bing Crosby, have been recognized as the new owners. They didn't bid as much as some of the other groups and they are paying most of it on time -- but then it's over five millions and who has a pocket with that much change? Now that the Tigers have new owners -- who knows, they may come up with big changes next season, areal new look that might preduce a pennant winner. It's wrestling as the big attraction at Kinsmen Stadium tonight and there's going to be real action. It's a return match between the Brunet! brothers and the Gallagher brothers, one of those tag-team affairs in which eventually, everybody gets into it and usually somebody gets the worst of it. These two teams went at each other hammer-and-tongs last week and we look for even more Kitchener - Waterloo Dutchmen introduced a brand new player to the Inter - County senior baseball circuit last night here at Oshawa's Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium] and he promptly etched his name in the I-C Hall of Fame with a no-hit, no-run game, the first of the league this season, .as the Dutchmen blanked Oshawa 4-0. The win moved the K-W Dutch- men into a tighter grip on third Place in the Inter - County race. 'he pitcher was Dean Finkbeiner, a University of Michigan student --just one more left-hander to give the Oshawa team plenty of trouble this summer. WELL-EARNED VICTORY The K-W victory was well-de- served, but Finkbeiner must share the credit with his teammates. The "'Dutchies" came up with an errorless defensive performance plus a few special gems that were in the sensational class, to help Finkbeiner to his no-hitter, He walked four batters -- he fanned only tnree -- but he got results, He also hit two batters with Finkbeiner's 1-C Debut No-hit, No-run Victory In the 9th, with the no-hitter al-|Oshawa elected to pass Ray Upper most in his grasp, Finkbeiner fed but he swung at a . out, G Copelan aiid a Jot che" and hs) Gro S10 i Conucr and Peuita whic score, On "Itzy" Ler snared at sho: 5 Then with two out, Rollie Leve! slashed a 3-and-2 count pitch back t in dia; through the box.
