He ought to be a 'big help. Maybe he'll lend me his signs." Bob Friend of Pittsburgh, for instance, was named either first or second by all managers. I believe each manager picked five pitchers.' Alston said he believed there were eight pitchers but declined to identify them. "That must come from the com- missioner's office," he said. A good guess probably would be Friend of Pittsburgh, Robin Rob- erts of Philadelphia, Don New- combe of Brooklyn, Johnny An- tonelli of New York, Bob Rush of Chicago, Bob Buhl of Milwaukee and Brooks Lawrence and Joe Nuxhall of Cincinnati. Chicago Scribes Voice Criticism | All-star Voting | CHICAGO (AP)--Dissatisfaction| over the current method of pick- ing starters for the annual all-star baseball game was voiced by some baseball leaders in Chicago Friday. President Will Harridge of the American League, owner P. K. Wrigley of Chicago Cubs, and vice-president Charles Comiskey of Chicago White Sox gave their opinions. : "It is very likely that we will go back to having the 16 mana- gers select the teams," Harridge said. "Naturally the club owners as well as commissioner Ford Frick prefer fan participation. We evi- dently didn't get heavy enough re- sponse to the poll nor was it dis- tributed evenly enough to get a good cross section of balloting." MUCH OF A WHIM "I never thought very highly of the poll anyhow," Wrigley said. "It always struck me that the ballots are pretty much of whim. My problem is that these stones are covered with tar and have oil and grease stains all over them. I would like to know what to use to remove these sub- stances. ANSWER: Man you picked yourself a terrific job and with all the work exerted the stones will not 'come out' entirely free of tar and grease. Tar can be softened by soaking with kerosene or one of the other petroleum base solvents. It can then scraped off with a putty knife. To remove some of the oil and grease, each stone will have to type of "frosting' can be, cleaned without streaks or marks. WHIE FILM ON BRICK QUESION: We have a brick planter in our living room, and found quite a bit of mortar on the brick. We were told to use muri- atic acid to clean it off. This, we did, not diluting the acid. We now have a white film on the brick. We put another coat of acid on the brick, diluting 10 parts of water to one part of acid. We still have the film, Could you help us ANSWER: Evidently you did not scrub the brickwork and prob- ably never rinsed it with clear water. After the solution has been on the brick for about three min- utes or so, scrub the surfaces with a fibre scrubbing brush; then rinse well with lots of clear water. Since the solution is highly cor- rosive, wear rubber gloves, pro- tect the eyes and skin against splashing, and wear rubbers over your shoes.
