In the opening fixture, Planets struck hard and fast in the first two periods and by the time the Comets knew what had happen- ed they were behind 8-2. The Plan- ets were led by Tom Olynyk who scored two goals and Bill Miklas with a singleton with the Comets only reply coming on a penalty shot by Ted Bathe. The first period ended with the Planets be- ing out in front 3-1. This is an annual event for the riddance of the carp and comes at a time when it allows the sports- men to get their limbs limbered up for the opening season for the black bass and the muskies. It also gets them into the feel of the old rod and reel, for when they get hold of a carp at this time of the year, they have a real fight on their hands. The area that is to be fished this year is the same as in the past years, in the waters around the docks, north to the Kent road Port Perry Rod and Gun Club Announces 'Carp Derby' Dates across the causeway to the Island shore, and in the bay, by the Yacht Club. An area of this bay has been cleared out this year by the club. Last year there was around 250] to 300 carp taken out by all fisher-! men. We are living in hopes of bet- tering that figure this year. RI S AND PRIZES Starting time will be early morh- | ing each day; weigh-in time is 7.00] p.m. and each person may keep his or her carp separate. There is a prize for the largest carp each Sunday, also for the largest for both days, as well as for the most carp for each day and for the two-day total. P.S. It's our opinion that a lot of 'rough stuff," in the corners, especially would be eliminated with the elimination of this busi of shooting the puck into enemy territory anc chasing in after it. It would bring about a returm of the passing plays we used to see, when a two or three-man attack swept in over a team's blue-line, with the puck-carrier the first man over the line, The idea is to permit shooting the puck ahead, into enemy- zone, only when your own team is short-handed. We doubt if the NHL portion of the joint rules committee will support Alberta's sug- gestion but even if they give the new rule a trial in the minor ranks, we think it will prove itself. Personally, we think superior stick-handling and play-making would be developed if such a rule was put in force -- and -- if the minors are to be the prov- ing ground, we'd like to see them go all the way and wipe out that red line while they're at it--make the puck-carrier be the first attacker to cross either blue line.
