PICKERING BEACH Ratepayers Association Adopts New Constitution And Bylaws | DOROTHY M. REIS Correspondent PICKERING BEACH -- The meeting of the ratepayers g Pick- ering Beach was held on Wednes-|p day evening, School. The president, Hans Kraupa, opened the meeting, and commented on the favorable num- ber of members present. For business reasons the secre- tary was unable to attend. At the. suggestion of the members Mrs. in Paradise Public] Dianne Kraupa recorded the min- antes of the meeting. Following the presentation of the treasurer's report by Mrs. Campbell, Lakeview blvd., it was decided. to accept membershi; dues on an annual bacis of $3 per member or 25 cents per| month in order that there would always be a workable capital on! hand. CONTRACT READ The president read the contract as presented by the school board, requiring a rental fee for the use of the school, and the regulations governing the use of the building. Harold Taylor asked how this considering it was decided to build the school with| the object of having it serve the dual purpose of a much-needed! schoo! and a community centre for the residents of the district. There were many comments made by the members to this effect. Mrs. F. Barber said that she thought that a member of the school board should have been in- vited to attend the meeting and give an opportunity to explain the reasons for this change in po- licy. In reply, the presidert had asked to have one or all their members present. Ther: no representation of] the sch sol board present. A motion was made by Mr. E. r that a representation of tepayers association attend| next school board meeting and request an official explanation s0 there can be no possibility of misunderstandings in the future, board j Tne motion was seconded by Mrs. } 3 Re with the unanimous support of the members. REPORT ON MEETING A report was then given,as to the results of the committee at. tending the last township council meeting, in Brougham. Mr, Kraups reported that they had been sured that the Pickering| Beach Road was included in this| vear's program for road building. As the paving depends entirely upon receipt of the grant, it was decided by the members that a let- ter be sent the provincial authori- ties. It was stressed that this be done to draw their attention to the great need of this road, by so many families, and not in an at- ititude of criticism. FIRE PROTECTION The outcome of enquires made concerning fire protection, were not encouraging. With the under- standing that there was a possi- bility of an agreement being reached, whereby Ajax fire equip- ment would be available in case of |need at the beach, following an agreement now being negotiated by the township with the Town of Ajax. As the township would be paying $1,000 ver year, for the services of a piece of equpment which cost the Town of Ajax $17,000 and be obliged to drive over our roads would be nothing short of a deliberate act of sabo- tage. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent the .township| council, for their ' co-operation with the ratepaver's association. A motion to this effect was made by Mrs. Florence Barber, seconded by Mrs. Russell Reid. ADOPT BYLAWS The Chairman read the by-| laws| governing the Ajax Ratepayer's Association. After due considera- tion, the by-laws and aims of the ratepayer's association of Picker- ing Beach were moved adonfed by Mr. Campbell, seconded: by Mr. A. Rancier. Taylor made a mo- tion authorizing the Committee to examine all possible solutions and their attendant costs. A. Ran- cier seconded this motion, which was passed with the wholehearted support of the members.
