The movement is causing increasing concern for the Indian - govern- ment, which must find homes and jobs for the Hindu refugees. Most of the refugees are moving into the area around Calcutta. But this already is one of India's most crowded regions, with a huge t of unemployment. It would be a problem area without the gration, st Pakistan, at the time of partition in 1947, had about 12, 500,000 Hindus and 27,500,000 Mos- lems. Since partition, about 4,000, 000 Hindus have moved to India and are continuing to come at the rate of 40,000 to 50,000 a month. This rate is double the number that migrated in 1955, which in turn was double the 1954 figure, the Indian government said. Pakistan officials claim these figures do not tell the whole story. They insist many Hindus, after tasting life in India, return to east Pakistan. It is "a two-way traffic," asserted one Pakistan government spokesman. New Delhi has insisted the Hin- dus , are fleeing east Pakistan because they feel there is no future for them as a minority in a Mos- lem-dominated state. Moslems are a minority in India but do not seem to feel they must flee to Pakistan, Indians say. Pakistan's officials declare they are giving - the Hindu minority fullact ratantian and lems try their "utmost to get along with the Hindus.
