> R THE DAILY TIMES.GAZETTE, Wednesday, April 4, 1956 on ; um WP WHITBY SPORTS SPOTLIGHT By WREN A. BLAIR r------ Hockey fever is something that comes every so often to prac- tically every Canadian centre. This ailment, or whatever it may| be described, gets you in the stomach, causes your nerves to give! you trouble, and generally upsets your entire digestive system. It also causes sleepless nights, has you chewing at the family, and nu. | merous other queer habits. Player and club officials go through | a dozen stages of superstitions, such as not getting a haircut 'till a certain series is over, not shaving until a certain game has been | won, wearing the same shirt, tie or underwear, (because that's | what you were wearing the last time the team won), wearing the | same colored sweaters through a series etc, etc. Doctors _.around | these parts report a growing epidemic of this fever, but they are | also hope ul that the crisis, may be reached before midnight to-| night, and if so they forecast a full recovery of all patients. | This epidemic has been brought on by the weird and un- predictable goings on, of the Whitby Dual and the Ki t Goodyears in their current series to decide this year's league champion. In the first four games of the affair, neither team could buy a win on their own ice. Then in the fifth game, the series took a decided change, when the Whitby Dunlops smoth- ered the "Goodies" 7-1 in Whitby, to grab a 3-2 lead in the play- off. After that shellacking, everyone (including the Dunlop team apparently) counted the limestone city squad out. They had had it. No doubt about that. They were dead on their feet, and any number of things. So dead in fact, that they could scarcely muster up enough energy to pump 12 measely goals past Whit- POLIO DIFFICULTIES PROBABLY FEWER is by goaler Jack Donlevy in the sixth game in Kingston. good for a ma- | vaccine itself was safe seem to beTore the polio seas ns under Of course it must be noted that ti:ey were fatigued to the point jor but by no means total vic- be dyer sar dleuon ooks going | oa In this Diets, Mh. : that they allowed the Whitby club a huge total of 3 goals in the tory over polio in 1956.
